A failed heating element is one of the most common reasons a wash comes out cold or a dryer stops drying. The part itself is usually inexpensive — the price difference between brands is mostly down to how easy the part is to source and fit.

Worn drum bearings cause a loud grinding or rumbling noise, usually worst on spin. It's a bigger job than an element or pump swap because the drum has to come apart, which is why it costs more in labour as well as parts.
